innovative, multicultural organisation that provides support services in the disability sector

How It Works

The NDIS is Australia’s first national Scheme for people with disability.

What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national scheme that provides necessary funding and support to eligible people with intellectual, physical, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial disability.

NDIS is designed to help people get the support they need so their skills and independence improve over time.

The scheme gives all Australians peace of mind if they, their child or loved one is born with or acquires a permanent and significant disability, they will get the support they need, including Early intervention supports which can also be provided for eligible people with disability or children with developmental delay.

NDIS helps support people reach their individual goals by offering support services they need to live the life they want.

Disability-related health supports

Since 1 October 2019, additional disability-related health supports have been available to purchase using NDIS funding. The typical types of support available can be grouped into eight ‘support type’ categories.

The following list of fundable supports is not exhaustive, and supports may be delivered in a range of ways.

Are you an NDIS participant looking for support workers?

There are a number of matching platforms that can help you connect with support workers.

If the delivery of your supports has been disrupted or you are just looking for new support workers, or backup coverage – these businesses are ready to help you out. You might want to register now even if you don’t need support workers immediately.

Home and living

The NDIS can assist participants to live independently. Participants and their families can discuss their home and living goals as part of their planning conversation. A participant’s plan will include the supports the NDIS will fund as well as the supports the participant will need to access through the housing system.

Most participants will continue to access housing in the private market by owning or renting, or through social housing.
